“The record you didn’t know you needed is what I am listening to in the other room.”

Faded concert posters line the dark walls. Wisps of incense smoke curl through the golden light. 1001 Albums Day 97 – Punishing Kiss

/

Photo of Ute Lemper circa 2000

Ute Lemper is another artist that is completely new to me. I was intrigued by the listed songwriters (Elvis Costello, Philip Glass, Tom Waits, Nick Cave) so was cautiously optimistic going in. During the first song I thought that she had a good voice and the song was interesting, sort of like something from a musical. Not really my thing usually but I was ready to give it a go.

Unfortunately it got a bit tiresome for me quickly after that. I didn’t really care for the male voice (not sure who it was) that was on some of the songs, and by the end I was skipping past them.

The Philip Glass song was ok at first but even that just got annoying and I couldn’t finish it either.

Disappointed overall in this. She seems really talented but not for my ears I guess.
