“The record you didn’t know you needed is what I am listening to in the other room.”

Faded concert posters line the dark walls. Wisps of incense smoke curl through the golden light. Another light week but full of enjoyable listens. Been working on my radio project, now called Sole Frequency, quite a bit so a lot of playlists to test it out, leaving a little less time for full albums.

More info on Sole Frequency soon, it’s going to be really great.

The Kinks - The Kinks Are The Village Green Preservation Society Album Cover
Far Out

Last week I promised I would listen to more mother fucking Kinks. Done!

Bob Dylan - Under the Red Sky Album Cover
Copacetic

I thought this was fine, a bit dated in the production maybe. Dylan has set the bar pretty damn high for himself and this one doesn’t quite reach it, but it’s certainly listenable, and even enjoyable, if you don’t expect too much from it.

Toad The Wet Sprocket - fear Album Cover
Far Out

I really need to stop myself from always reaching for Dulcinea when I am in a Toad mood because this is quite a remarkable album as well. “I Will Not Take These Things For Granted” is a perfect song.

The Beatles - A Hard Day's Night Album Cover
Far Out

I mean, that opening chord grabs me, and then it’s on to the astounding album it was, is, and will always be.

Robyn Hitchcock - The Man Upstairs Album Cover
Copacetic

I heard his cover of “The Ghost In You” and thought it was great so hunted this down and was quite pleased with the rest. I used to listen to Robyn a ton in college, not sure why that has faded…

Electric Light Orchestra - Face the Music Album Cover
Far Out

Possibly my favorite ELO album. I remember for a long time the streaming versions clipped the beginning of the opener “Fire On High” and it bugged the shit out of me so much I absolutely refused to listen to it. (If you want to really know me, read that sentence again, it explains oh so much)

“Waterfall” is fucking gorgeous and while I could do without “Evil Woman” it’s fine in the album context.

Fountains of Wayne - Welcome Interstate Managers Album Cover
Copacetic

Every once in a while I hear these guys mentioned, or see them in a recommended list or something so I play this. Then I forget about it, and them, until I am reminded again. Rinse, repeat.

High on Stress - Cop Light Parade Album Cover
Far Out

Nick Leet and the guys from Minneapolis, a find of mine from the good old Twitter days. All their stuff is just well written good old rock and roll that just pleases me to no end. They broke up for a while but they released Still Here back in May that hasn’t popped up on streaming yet. I’d love to pick up a copy when I have a spare $15 bucks…

Unless Nick happens across this and wants to send me a copy….
