“The record you didn’t know you needed is what I am listening to in the other room.”

Bin Diving – Week of May 8 – 14, 2026

/

Cozy corner with record player, vinyl records, plush chair, and jazz posters

Welcome to the first official Bin Diving Post here on Sensory Dispensary. Bin Diving captures all of the albums I have listened to start to finish over the previous week, and offers a rating, brief review and a handy link to listen to the album on your own music service of choice.

These could be old favorites, new finds, recommendations, or some random shit I found buried deep in my last.fm library that I have no recollection of ever listening to.

2026 is the year I return to the album as the focal point of my listening, like I used to when I would grab some vinyl off the record shelves. Streaming has made it so easy to make playlists and mixes that I fell out of the habit of enjoying the complete LP, start to finish as they should be heard.

Bin Diving keeps me on task, and I get to share with you some things you might want to listen to, or maybe should avoid.

I think they peaked with Aja but this is still a fine listen. “Babylon Sisters”, “Tiime Out of Mind” and “My Rival” are all standout tracks.

This isn’t one I listen to often but I enjoy when I do. Todd being very Todd here.

Far Out

This one was big so there a few radio staples I have tired of but “Red Barchetta” and “Vital Signs” make this one still sit in pretty frequent rotation.

Copacetic

Found this one hiding in the very low listen range of my last.fm library so thought I would revisit it. It’s good stuff and you can’t beat a song called “She’s as Beautiful as a Foot”

Far Out

Classic Stones, ’nuff said.

Far Out

One of the most important and influential albums ever made. John Mayall gives Eric Clapton the chance to really play the blues, and boy does he take advantage.

Not my favorite of his but it’s still pretty strong. I’ve always been fond of “Tie Dye on the Highway”

Copacetic

Robbie fully embraces his Native American roots here, and he does it well. “Unbound” is a personal favorite.

Far Out

Taylor Goldsmith is one of my favorite songwriters of the last 15 years or so and Dawes has put out a string of great albums. This is one of them.

Far Out

This is a “mood” album for me. I am not sure if it requires a certain mood for me to listen, or if it adjusts my mood when I do. Either way, it’s brilliant and should definitely only ever be listened to in full from start to finish.

Far Out

You’ll see a lot of Wilco on these weekly lists, this one will probably show up pretty regularly as it’s flawless and beautiful and I love it.

Far Out

Probably the Zappa album that most are familiar with, the story of Nanook the Eskimo and the yellow snow. It’s great through and through though, “Cosmic Debris”, “Uncle Remus”, and “Stink-Foot” are all outstanding tunes.
Just one question though, is that a real poncho or is that a Sears poncho?

Far Out

With only two albums released, Jellyfish is startlingly high on my last.fm charts. That’s because both are outstanding. Spilt Milk is a little edgier and much more Queen like, but Bellybutton is great. “I Want To Stay Home” is my personal theme song. One day I will share the story about choosing it as my welcome back to the office music while working at Asana, although I think I just did…

More Wilco. Get used to it.

Far Out

Margot is in beautiful voice here (as always) but there is something about this record which just moves me to a different place.

Copacetic

Such a fun band to listen to, look beyond “On The Road Again” and “Going Up the Country” and you’ve got a great blues band here.
Don’t forget to Boogie!

Copacetic

Ten Years After popped up as a recommendation on the above Canned Heat so I followed it through and chose something I hadn’t heard before. It’s quite good, all the guitar soloing you would expect is present here.

That’s all for this week – I’ll try to get this posted earlier in the day next Monday. Also be on the lookout for a video I made of how I compile these posts and how I use AI to do all the tedious repetitive stuff so I can just add the blocks with all the info it gathered.
