Random Song of the Day (RSOTD) – Playing in The Band

Photo of Bob Weir on stage outdoors in front of microphone playing electric guitar

Not really random (not that any of these are truly random) but in honor of the great Bobby Weir who passed yesterday. I know for most people it was likely Jerry who was the face of the Grateful Dead, even long after he died, but for me it was always Bob Weir. I don’t really know why, I guess I just latched on to him for some reason.

Bob’s album Ace from 1972 is essentially a Grateful Dead album in all but name, with the rest of the band backing him on the recording, and many of the songs being incorporated in to the touring setlist. Ace is one of my favorites of the releases by the band or adjacent members or splinter groups. Such a great collection of songs, but none better than “Playing in The Band” which always seemed to just represent the band the best to me in music and in spirit.

I thought it most appropriate to share the original album version.

May your long strange trip continue Bobby.
