The other day I wrote about how I was moving back to RSS and using News Explorer as my main source of information about politics, world news, local news, tech, music and miscellaneous other oddities. No more bookmarks or news aggregators, everything I need is automatically delivered right to me.

I also mentioned culling out the sites and people that no longer interest me. There were many I deleted from the app but I did want to make mention of the one lone personal blog from that old list that I decided to keep around.

Steve Layman started his blog with a business partner (I believe the story goes) but found himself doing all the posting and such so even though it lives at andersonlayman.blogspot.com, it’s now just A Layman’s Blog.

I have always found Steve to be a genuinely nice guy who posts a combination of music, funny shit, and a lot of quotes and snippets from books, news articles, and other blogs. I don’t know where he finds any of this stuff, and honestly a good portion of it goes right over my head, but it must have caught his attention for some reason and that genuine interest and natural curiosity makes for one of the most unusually interesting personal blogs still out there.

It feels like a throwback to the old days when people shared interesting things, and it even runs on blogspot using the classic default theme. I can’t believe Google hasn’t shuttered that platform yet, I think maybe they just forgot they still own it.

Anyway, give Steve’s site a look, you’ll probably find something worthy of your time to visit.
