Random Song of the Day (RSOTD) – Script For A Jester’s Tear

Group shot of the band Marillion 1983

Marillion with “Script For A Jester’s Tear” the first song from their debut album of the same name. Released in the UK in 1983, they didn’t really make much of a dent in the states until “Kayleigh” from 1985’s Misplaced Childhood got some play here. They did a tour in 1986 opening for Rush which I caught here in Chicago. While they have since become one of my favorite bands, I wasn’t as familiar with them as I am now so I feel like it was a huge missed opportunity for me. I wish I could go back and see them again.

  1. This is a wonderful song by a band I never heard of. Starting out, I was thinking how this was a band that opened for Rush. Then I got it. Listening, there were parts that reminded me of Trans Siberian Orchestra, then Triumph and maybe a little Styx. Great guitar sound and when I have some time, I’m going to look them up and listen to a few more songs. Thanks and have a great weekend!
