“The record you didn’t know you needed is what I am listening to in the other room.”

Faded concert posters line the dark walls. Wisps of incense smoke curl through the golden light. Big Sky Country – Chris Whitley

/

Close-up shot of singer and guitarist Chris Whitley in front of microphone.

Gina is putting together a timeline for something so she looked up a Tom Petty concert we went to back in the Colorado days to get the exact date to use as a reference point. She was reading about it and mentioned that Chris Whitley had opened the show.

I hadn’t thought about Chris Whitley in years, and honestly I had forgotten we had seen him, but I immediately remembered there being a song of his that I really liked. I did a quick search and recognized this one as the one I was thinking of. Such a great song, glad to have it back in my brain and in the listening rotation.

I hadn’t realized that he had passed away of lung cancer in 2005 at the age of 45, so very sad.

Fuck Cancer.
