Random Song of the Day (RSOTD) – She Said She Was A Dancer

Ian Anderson and Martin Barre of Jethro Tull on stage, playing flute and guitar respectively.

I always thought that Jethro Tull’s 1987 release Crest of a Knave was a really strong release for them. Songs like “Farm on the Freeway”, “Jump Start”, “Budapest” and this one “She Said She Was A Dancer” are all standout tracks on an album that is eminently listenable.

I found this live version from 1992 which I enjoyed so I want to share it rather than the album version. Featuring the great Martin Barre on guitar, apparently doing his best Mark Knopfler impression. Sad that he and Ian have parted ways, doesn’t seem right to be Tull without his signature guitar sound.

This was the album that Tull won the Heavy Metal Grammy for, which is a great example of misgenretization (I just made that word up I think but you know what it means) and shouldn’t diminish the quality of the album itself.

  1. Great performance. JT has been one of my favorites and I have every album. For me, Farm On The Freeway and MountainMen are my favorites on the record. I think James and the boys in Metallica got over the upset. They are still rocking it while Ian is struggling to stay relevant.
