While I am generally horrified on a daily basis by the inane and unconstitutional things being done by our current Executive Branch, this turned my stomach.
Please watch this interview between Stephen Colbert and Former USAID Administrator Samantha Power:
This is such a dangerous shift in our values and priorities as a nation, when we abandon those who need help, when we abandon our role as a helping and giving country, one that leads by example and serves as a model of providing humanitarian services. I know we don’t always get it right but this program, and others like it that are having their funding cut, provide essential aid and services – and the world is a worse place because of these cuts, and we are a worse nation for doing the cutting that discontinues them. My heart hurts when listening to this and when reading about other essential services that have been shut down, and thinking about those who are affected.
Also, I believe that giving Elon Musk free reign to make decisions relating to government programs and funding, as well as access to the financial data of all government contractors and US Citizens, might just be the stupidest, most dangerous thing Donald Trump has ever done, and that’s saying something given the list so far.
