This just seemed an appropriate song to share today.
The original 1965 version, written by Curtis Mayfield and recorded by The Impressions is just an amazingly rich and deeply meaningful song, with many interpretations and an incredible legacy.
I think just about everyone has done a cover of this, and there are some great ones. Aretha kills it (of course), Al Green does a beautiful job, and Rod Stewart and Jeff Beck do it justice on their collaborative effort. Both Bob and Ziggy Marley have reggae-fied it nicely and even Bob Dylan has given it a go.
The original is fucking perfect though.
