“The record you didn’t know you needed is what I am listening to in the other room.”

Faded concert posters line the dark walls. Wisps of incense smoke curl through the golden light. The mood is intimate, analog, and deeply atmospheric with rich sepia and brown tones against near-black shadows. | photorealistic | landscape

A New Perspective

/

I have always known that prayer is bullshit, I don’t believe there is a god, but if I am wrong, it is abundantly clear he would be a malevolent being, or purely apathetic.

In any case, I am now adding dreaming, hoping, wishing, imagining, picturing, visualizing, setting goals and wanting to the list of bullshit concepts we have invented to try and convince ourselves that we have any role in defining our futures.

None of this matters and none of this helps. All we can do is be ready to take whatever events happen to derail our desired outcomes, and then go from there.

So I’m done – no more pretending to try and build things that will fall. No more imagining things that are not going to happen anyway. No more dreams to be shattered by a reality that doesn’t fucking care what I want.

And no more 1001 albums – even this turned out to be just a shitty book of 800 shitty albums no one wants to fucking listen to anyway. I’m so done.

Scott, I’m sorry to hear you’re having problems. I just want to let you know that I’ve enjoyed the 1001 album project, if only for bringing back to mind some of the music I’ve always enjoyed (and I trust your judgement on the albums you didn’t care for). Stay strong, and let me know if there’s anything I can do. Steve
