“The record you didn’t know you needed is what I am listening to in the other room.”

Hard Luck Woman – Random Song of the Day (RSOTD)

/

Back when I was a little tyke in like 1977 / 1978 I was a big fan of the band KISS. I had some albums, the trading cards, and I remember the movie Kiss Meets the Phantom of the Park coming out. A collaboration between KISS and Hanna-Barbera – what could go wrong?

I was a proud and loyal member of the KISS Army.

As I got older and was exposed to other (better) music, that fanaticism passed. In later years though, probably in a fit of nostalgia, I revisited the early albums and was surprised how well some of the songs stood up. The first album is a really great collection of pop / rock songs and there are some gems on the next couple as well. I find the later years unlistenable, although admittedly I can’t say I have tried all that hard.

I had a few options for today’s pick that I thought about posting. “Firehouse” or “Cold Gin” – or maybe even “Strutter” but I decided to pull from the second album Hotter Than Hell and the song “Hard Luck Woman”. I think this is a song many would probably be surprised to find out is them if not known. It’s very different from what I think a lot of people perceive them to be. Maybe it’s the Peter Criss vocal?

In any case, here goes. Let me know what you think of this one?
