“The record you didn’t know you needed is what I am listening to in the other room.”

Gone – Random Song of the Day (RSOTD)

Today’s RSOTD is “Gone” from The Head and The Heart

I really love this album, and this band, as evidenced by my Last.fm stats of most listened to albums, where they hold the top two slots. I discovered their self-titled debut at a time when it was just what I needed, and it was in near daily rotation for about a year. Their follow up Let’s Be Still from, from which this song is pulled, was also an instant favorite. Both albums are brilliant and gorgeous and perfect and I highly recommend you give them a spin.

“Gone” is a standout track and the album closer. It builds up slowly, swirling and swaying until the payoff comes. It’s like a beautiful gut punch and it gets me in the feels every damn time. I hope you give this a listen and let me know what you think.

  1. This song… haunting melody, lyrics that slay. What more can one song accomplish?
