Blood On Your Hands

Bloody hand prints on black background

I was planning on writing about something I read early this morning about how the people at FEMA were having trouble writing the weather warnings because Homeland Security advised them to not use the word “ICE” in the messaging.

Apparently DHS was concerned that phrases like “Watch out for ice” or “Keep off the roads if you see ice” would quickly be turned in to memes, and urged them to use terms like “freezing rain” instead.

I had a bunch of stuff written in my head about how ludicrous this is, and dangerous, and even sort of hilarious, them being more concerned about mockery than being clear in warning the American people of the very real dangerous weather.

Then I read about the horrific murder of another US Citizen, 37-year-old Alex Pretti, by yet another ICE agent in Minneapolis today.

I honestly don’t know what to say about any of this. I am beyond shocked and mortified at the way this administration is using Trump’s personal army to carry out attacks on the American people, using fear to deter the legal right to assemble and protest, obstructing the legitimate investigations in to these incidents, and ultimately allowing these agents to murder with impunity. I fear for the future of this country like I never have before.

Yet I see flippant cartoons about ICE agents, I read and hear people defending their actions, and it sickens me, and it makes me sad, and it makes me angry, and I don’t know what to do with all these feelings, I don’t know how to process them, I am trying to make sense out of something that isn’t logical, that makes no sense.

For those who voted for this, who ignored the warnings, who allowed this man to become President, not just once, but twice – these murders are on you. I blame you, and nothing you can ever do will remove the blood from your hands.
