Right around this time, 32 years ago, we were winding down our wedding reception. Gina had chosen 3 songs she wanted the DJ to play at the end of the reception – Lyle Lovett’s “She’s No Lady“, Dr. John’s “Makin Whoopee” (with Rickie Lee Jones) and The Beatles “When I’m Sixty Four“
It was the perfect end to a perfect day, and the start of our life together as an official married couple.
From our very first meetings I knew she was special and our quickly developing friendship turned in to our loving commitment to each other. Life has challenged us during those 32 years, but we always face our challenges together as a team, and we always prevail.
Not only is Gina a brave warrior, a talented writer, and a wonderful cook, she’s also a goddamn superhero. She is my best friend and my most ardent defender and protector. I love the life we have built together, the shared language we have developed over the years filled with song lyrics and tv and movie quotes. I love the kitties we have added to our family and I love the home that we share. I really love that she offered to let me keep my pretty large album collection in the living room, I declined, they live up in a spare bedroom.
I think I couldn’t love her more than I do, until tomorrow, when I somehow figure out how to do that. I don’t know how I managed it, but I am the luckiest man alive.
Happy Anniversary Gina. Looks like our contract got renewed for another year!
