Lyrics – Box Full of Letters

The band Wilco from 1995

I have been assembling a list of lyrics for this series of posts for a few months now, and when I went to pick something for today I noticed that there are a significant number of lyrics from a small group of people. I have already featured Paul McCartney and Bob Dylan. Warren Haynes and Pete Townshend are very well represented, Taylor Goldsmith from Dawes shows up quite frequently and I think I might have to do a whole month or more for Roger Waters.

Today’s lyric is from Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy who ranks right up there as well. Much like Wilco’s music which can defy categorization, the lyrics I have picked from Jeff are a bit all over the map as well. They are clever, or they make me smile, or they make me think, or they paint a picture, but sometimes they just say something in a way I wish I had thought of or express something in a way I wish I could have.

This comes from “Box Full of Letters” one of the first songs I heard from Wilco’s debut album A.M. in 1995.

I just can’t find the time
To write my mind
The way I want it to read

Lots more Jeff to come in future posts.

  1. Your deep appreciation of lyrics like this underscore the fact that you are indeed a writer/artist yourself, my dear.
