Lyrics – Sweetheart Like You

Bob Dylan from the "Sweetheart Like You" music video

Today’s lyric has always struck me as brilliant, which isn’t a stretch coming from Bob Dylan. From the remarkable Infidels album released in 1983, it features the great Sly and Robbie on the rythm section and some guitar work from Mick Taylor.

They say that patriotism is the last refuge

To which a scoundrel clings

Steal a little and they throw you in jail

Steal a lot and they make you king

One could see this as a prophetic description of our current President but as Gina said when we talked about my posting this, “it’s almost as if this playbook has been used before.” She’s a smart lady that Gina.

It’s almost a cliché to hype up or try to analyze Dylan lyrics, but its a fruitful garden and I will harvest it, my list already has a bunch in queue waiting to be posted so watch this space.

PS – In an interesting side note, the music video for “Sweetheart Like You” featured Carla Olson sitting in to mimic the Mick Taylor bits which led to the two working together to make the wonderul “Winter” I posted last month.
