I’ve been thinking of some regular topics or features I would like to introduce here. I have come up with a few that will be rolling out over the next couple of days or weeks.
Today I want to introduce the Random Song of the Day or the RSOTD. This is a song I post for no particular reason other than I heard it play on my YouTube Music and it struck my fancy, or something happened to make me think of it – like a thing I read or something someone said, or maybe it just popped in to my head for no particular reason.
It could be anything, and I think that’s going to be the fun of it. I hope you enjoy it, and I hope that maybe you might give a listen to something you may not be familiar with. It could become a new favorite.
Here is a blast from the past to kick things off – The Allman Brothers Band with “No One To Run With” from Conan in 1994. This was about the same time I saw them live for the first time, a concert which started my now 30 plus years of extreme fandom of them, and guitarist Warren Haynes and his band Gov’t Mule.
It’s bittersweet for me to watch this though. The Allman Brothers lost Duane Allman and Berry Oakley in 1971 / 1972 but since this appearance other original members – Gregg Allman, drummer Butch Trucks and guitarist Dickey Betts have also passed, leaving only drummer Jaimoe still with us. Bassist Allen Woody from this iteration is also gone.
I could write volumes on The Allman Brothers and my 30 year obsession, but suffice it to say that with a few dozen of their concerts in my past, they were an integral part of my life for a long time.
I miss them every day.
